Christmas at the Foss House

We had a quiet Christmas dinner this year at home with just a few friends on the 24th, the tradtional day that Peruvians celebrate. I got to cook my very first turkey which turned out great, though I must admit I hated finding this inside of it!

We are Moving...in Three Weeks!!!

December is the final month of our two year contract renting this house. We were hoping to stay a few years more but the lanlord wants to increase our rent by $300 a month. So we have decided to look for another place. The challange we faced was finding a place that would still be close to the girls school and allow us to drive to Manchay and Pachacamac each day and also that the rent would be within our budget. We are so thankful that our God always knows our needs and he has provided us with an apartment in the same community where we are currently. We will be moving the first of January.

November Happenings

We had a great visit with Marianne and Greg who came to spend 10 days with us earlier this month. We enjoyed a relaxing week, with a few short outings and playing "Password" and "Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?" It was especially nice just to spend time talking and getting to know one another better. Greg preached both of the Sundays that they were here at our church in Manchay and Tyler translated. We are grateful for the encouragement that they were to us. We miss having them here already and can't wait for their next visit.

We've Reached Another Milestone at the Foss House

I was caught by surprise when Myah came running to show me that her tooth was wiggly! I guess because she is my youngest I kind of hope that she won't grow up as quickly as her sisters did, but she seems to be growing up even faster! It is fun to see how excited she is.

Finally Here... Quilt pics

Last year I began making these quilts for our girls. I wanted each of them to have something that was just for them. They also had to leave behind many of their things when we moved here and this was something I wanted to do for them, to remind them how they are each special to me.

I am grateful to my mother in law Ruth, who was willing to hand quilt each of these quilts for me. I think it is great that these were completed by two generations for out girls. I tried to post a few pictures below to show some of the detailed quilting that went in to these blankets. They really are very well done.

Sarah's quilt was made with Moda's very popular Sock Monkey fabric. When she was little we used to call Sarah our Tutti Monkey and so when I saw this fabric I knew it was perfect for her.
Myah's quilt was made with this fabric collection of pinks, yellows and oranges. Admittedly not my favourite combination when I first saw the fabric. But, one of Myah's first presents was a pair of pink sleepers with these adorable cup cakes on them. This fabric collection just happened to include a pink print with cupcakes, so you can see my inspiration. The funny thing is that when I finished piecing the quilt I actually like it despite the strange colour mixture.
Here is a picture of all three quilts together. I posted about Hannah's quilt a while back and you can see more pictures there.
Detailed pick of quilting

Now each of the girls has their own blanket, made especially for them.

Answers in Genesis

This week our girls have some special visitors at their school. One of the Creation Scientists from Answers in Genesis has come to do their Bible classes this week. The girls have come home very excited talking about what they have learned. They have been able to see a model of the Ark and many other things. They are looking forward to what they will learn the rest of this week. You can check out this link to their kids website here. This is a great opportunity God has given to our girls and we are so delighted.

Out of the Mouth of Myah

I was just speaking with Myah's teacher this afternoon and she told me a sweet story about Myah in her class. First you should maybe know that Myah's favourite part of school is her Bible class. She comes home and tells us in great detail about what she learned that day. They are currently in the beginning of the Old Testament.

One day last week Mrs. Melinc was reviewing with Myah and Aaron the story of Lot, his wife and daughters fleeing Sodom. Both Myah and Aaron got to tell her what they remembered about their lesson and she said they both remembered the story very well. They were taking turns and when Myah got to the part about Lot's wife turning to salt Myah said in an very excited voice "She didn't obey what the angels told them and God truned her into a pillar of pepper!"

You just have to love the excitment of a five year old. I don't know how her teacher didn't laugh out loud, but she didn't, she just enjoyed the moment.

Four Years!

It is hard to believe it was four years ago that we came to Peru for the first time. I remember stepping off the plane very tired and full of a mixture of emotions; excitement , anticipation, curiosity and fear. It did not take much time for us to realize that this was the place where God wanted us to serve Him. With much love and support from of our family members, close friends and our wonderful home church Hespeler Baptist, we are able to share God's amazing love and the joy of knowing Him as Savior with many here in Peru. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all that you have done to encourage us over the past four years, we look forward to many more years serving the King of Kings in this place.

100 Hugs and Kisses

Have I ever told you about one of the best parts of my work day? Each morning when I arrive at the Oasis (care center) all of the children are in the dinning room ready to have their breakfast. I love to walk in the door where I am greated by a number of munchkins with arms wide open as they run to give me a hug. I proceed around the room, greeting each child giving them a quick hug and talk to them briefly. I love it and I could not think of a better way to start my day than with 100 hugs and kisses.

I began making this quilt on Saturday, it is a simple four star quilt made using a Jelly role. I am using Gypsy Rose fabric by Fig Tree Quilts and their pattern Jelly Stars.

Meet Jake and Lilly

Jake and Lilly joined our household last night. Needless to say it was a night full of much excitement for our girls who love animals. They decided to draw names and the green bird a male turned out to be Jake and the blue bird Lilly.
